OLIVIA'S PASSING
Goodbye to an icon
With her "Princess Leia"-like horns and her princess-like
personality Olivia was our first goat rescue and (probably) the oldest
goat here. So people-friendly she was allowed to freely roam the farm,
greeting visitors, holding court and gladly accepting treats from her
many fans.
Olivia also had a maternal side, which she would call upon when an
orphaned calf, lamb or goat arrived at the farm, anxious for a
connection.
She was a teacher, a comedian, a best friend, a supervisor, a
rabble-rouser, a missionary and a pure, beautiful soul. She was so many
things to so many of us, humans and animals alike. Last week we
tearfully said goodbye to this magnificent lady who touched so many —
more than those many could have ever imagined. Your memory will live on
in our hearts forever, sweet Olivia. May you rest in peace.
If you'd like to read more about her story and see lots more photos,we still have her info page up. |

For
the 3rd year in a row our ThanksLiving banquet has sold out. People go
ga-ga over the event, held in a giant tent in one of our pastures. This
year we've set aside a pair of tickets and are making them available on
eBay. We just lowered the starting bid, and to sweeten the deal we're
throwing in a two-night stay in a luxury suite, courtesy of the
magnificent Emerson Resort & Spa, worth almost $1000. The auction ends Thursday, Nov. 13th, so don't delay! >>Visit the auction<<

Please Keep Us Going!
We are kicking some animal-rescuing booty and spreading the word far
and wide about why farm animals matter too. We may have just closed our
doors for the season but our 150+ animals don't head off to Miami--they
are right here being loved, well-cared for and toasty warm during the
harsh winter months. We depend on YOU to help us continue our important
work so please DONATE NOW
as generously as you can to keep us going in fighting the good fight,
rescuing animals in need, and caring for the many who rely on us daily.
We couldn't do this without YOU! |

Bean Counter Wanted!
We're looking for an accountant to help us with quarterly filings, 990's etc. Please contact us if you'd be willing to donate your time.

No Hanging Chads:
PROP 2 PASSES!

California, the nation's most populous and hot-tubby state,
just became the first to ban all three of the most common systems of
animal confinement: chicken battery cages, veal crates & pig
gestation crates.
By voting for a phaseout of these cruel systems by
2015, Cali voters have sent a message to the owners of factory farms,
that these animals (while still exempt from federal anti-cruelty laws)
should at the very least be able to turn around and stretch their limbs
during their short lives.
While our dreams for farm animals include a lot more
than just turning around, we fully recognize the significance of this
step. We applaud HSUS and Farm Sanctuary
for spearheading some great activism on that coast, and look forward to
the days when hockey moms and plumbers in all 50 states are more fully
educated about how farm animals live before arriving neatly wrapped in
styrofoam at the market. >>Full Story
