Ailing Olivia Underlines the Need
for New Hospice Center
 |
13-year-old Olivia huddled under a blanket for warmth. |
When our beloved Olivia was diagnosed with lymphoma last May we weren't sure how long she could fight the disease, but our two-pronged effort of steroids and homeopathic treatments kept her feeling well all summer and fall. As the bitter cold descended and her old frail legs became too stiff and weak to stand, the only answer was to bring her inside our home for warmth.... joining some rabbits and a steady flow of sick chickens.
Aside from amusing the UPS guy, our foyer, while warm, is really not an ideal place for a goat of any size. Our proposed Animal Hospice Center will provide a climate-controlled environment with all the facilities we need for the best care of our animals. The project is about half funded and we plan to break ground in the spring, but we really need YOU to chip in! >>Read more here<<
Please make a donation to the Hospice Center Building Capital Fund and help us finish this much-needed facility for Olivia and the many others like her who need a warm, clean place to recover. We hope you will be a part of this important effort!

We welcome new board member Kelly Galligan. She is the co-founder and COO of This Is Pop, a firm that designs games for entertainment companies including MTV, Adult Swim, Nickelodeon, and A&E. Kelly's background is in marketing and operations, and the casual games industry has provided an ideal outlet for her extensive knowledge of otherwise useless pop culture trivia.
This Is Pop’s move to Manhattan’s Meat Packing District in 2001 sparked Kelly’s interest first in vegetarianism, and then animal rights issues. The neighborhood continues to provide her with inspiration to try to help change the way people eat, and the way they think about animals.

There was a critically important article on the front page of last Sunday's New York Times Week in Review section. A really, really important read for all. It starts with:
"A sea change in the consumption of a resource that Americans take for granted may be in store — something cheap, plentiful, widely enjoyed and a part of daily life. And it isn’t oil. It’s meat."

INCREDIBLE people who do INCREDIBLE THINGS for WFAS
The list of people who have biked the 100-some miles from Connecticut to volunteer at the farm is short. The list of those who are also expert mushroom-gatherers is even shorter: Zaac Chaves is the sole member of that list, and has earned his "good egg" tribute many times over! >>READ MORE <<
